Year 3 – Gorillas

Welcome to Gorillas class! Our class team consists of Miss Morison (Class Teacher), Miss Perkins (Classroom Support Professional), Mrs Ashmead (1:1 Classroom Support Professional).

English

In English we are exploring non-fiction texts, focusing on the Ancient Egyptians. We are currently writing a persuasive leaflet on the River Nile, ensuring we understand the purpose of the text and including the key writing features such as fronted adverbials, modal verbs and interesting adjectives. We will then start to build on these skills to write a non-chronological report on Tutankhamun. Throughout our writing units, we will be focusing on building on our editing and revising skills.

In reading, we will use ‘Expert Tips’ reading skills to answer questions on a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. Specifically, we will be focusing on our class text to help build further understanding.

Maths

In Maths this half term, we are currently fractions, understanding key mathematical vocabulary such as numerator, denominator and equal parts. We will then build on this knowledge to explore how to add and subtract fractions.

We will continue to work hard on our times tables, focusing on building our fluency in the x2/x5/x10 times tables.

Here are some games and songs you can use at home:
