Our Eco Council consists of a representative from each class and meets fortnightly to discuss issues.
Recently, the Eco Council prioritised the improvement of our forest school area. We were lucky enough to have very supportive parents, local businesses and FOHS who helped us to transform our small wildlife area into a wonderful working outdoor classroom. Each class now has the opportunity to spend an afternoon in forest school every fortnight.
Batsford Timber created bespoke planters for year groups 1 – 6 (nursery and Honeybees already have their own). This continues to enhance our children’s outdoor experiences and the children will grow their produce to then harvest and cook in their D.T. cookery units.
The Eco Council also applied for a charity grant, which we were successful in obtaining. They chose some new woodland animal-themed seating, bird boxes, a hedgehog house, wildflower seeds, and a bee and butterfly home.
We are delighted to have been accepted onto the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust’s Wilder Schools project, which aims to boost confidence and capacity for outdoor learning.
This initiative will help integrate outdoor activities into our daily curriculum, enhancing pupils’ connection to nature. The Wilder Learning Development Officer (WLDO), Lucy Thirkell, will work with our staff, coaching during lessons and offering training on curriculum-based outdoor sessions, SEMH and lot’s more! Mrs Bradley and Mrs Elliott are our outdoor learning advocates who will be championing the project.
We believe that the benefits of being part of the Wilder Schools Project will be countless. We are extremely excited to learn more and witness the positive impact this will have on our children.
